Fishing destinations
Shady Camp, located on the Mary River, approximately 2.5hrs drive from Darwin. In this location, the freshwater habitat converges with the saltwater tidal river, creating an ideal haven for large barramundi, particularly after the monsoonal rains of the tropical wet season.
- Distance: The trip from the Shady Camp boat ramp to the mouth of the Mary River is approximately 20-25 kilometers (12-15 miles).
- Time: Depending on the boat’s speed and tide conditions, it generally takes 45 minutes to an hour to reach the river mouth. Tides and water levels can significantly impact travel time, so it’s important to plan according to the tides.
